Inspector-Hector NEW Dirt Detector: Hand Soap

Inspector Hector first came on the scene with their plaque detector: a product that claims to make kids brushing fun. You may have seen the TV commercials of kids spitting their mouthwash out and seeing the 'remnants' wash down the drain. Plaque Detector is a pre-rinse that stains plaque blue so kids can see what needs to be brushed. Frankly, when I saw the commercials I was rather grossed out. But, we tried it anyway... once. The kids have a marble sink and couldn't see the spit. Needless to say, my son was very disappointed--anything potentially gross is cool to him. NOW, Inspector-Hector has a hand-soap called "DirtDetector". It's so new they haven't found time to put it on their website. But, it's basically the same concept of their other products: it changes colors when kids hands are clean. Maybe we'll try it, maybe we won't. So, how do you think they do it? It has to be some sort of chemical reaction. How can their claims be challenged and is it safe? Any ideas? Let me know.

  2. I am going to try this having kids I always look for fun stuff an ways to keep them wanting to stay clean. I tryed suidsoap by Airborne where it leaves a ink spot on the kids hand and they wash untill it is gone.. It was not worth the money I spent on it even the kids agreed. So I hope this one is better. I will post after purchase and try.

  7. I JUST found it at the Target near us. In Wentzville, MO. The boys were already in bed when I got home so I tried it first. It's clear soap with tiny little beads, that looks like cup cake sprinkles in it. As you scrub the beads get squished and break up and change the suds from clear/white to a very light pink. It's not very noticeable at all. I am disappointed. My oldest son is a great handwasher, but my 2 1/2 year old wants to 'do it myself", but he just sticks his hand under the water, splashes in the sink, and leaves so I thought that the color would get his attention and make him want to rub his hands together. I'm going to try it, but I don't think the color is noticeable hardly at all so I don't think he'll see it. There are two kinds of it. We got the orangish color/bubble gum I think. I would like to hear from someone who buys the purple kind if that change is more noticeable. It may be that light pink is just not able to show up enough. Overall, I'm very bummed about it.

  9. I searched all over Pottsville, Pa for these products and have had no luck. Short of driving the hour to Reading, Pa (which I have no intention for hand soap) I'll continue to have my kids use good old Dial.
